GeocachingIntro to Geocaching

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.

Heather Bente, Library Director, will introduce participants to the hobby of geocaching.  She began geocaching last spring, and to date has 71 finds in 4 states.  This is a great outdoors activity for the whole family, and a great opportunity to visit many of our area's city, county and state parks.  The class will meet at the Waterville Public Library, located at 82 Main St. in Waterville for a hour of computer time, which will be spent setting up an online geocaching account and learning about GPS coordinates and devices.  If you have a GPS that you are comfortable with using please bring with you to class.  The last 2 hours we will travel to Waterville Farm Park to put our geocache skills to the test.  Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult.  Registration is limited to 12.  Please call 535-7295 or email director@waterville.lib.ia.us to register.

Come enjoy the afternoon in Waterville!
